The New Doll Dreamers Guild

The purpose and plan of the Doll Dreamers Guild is a complex subject that has been in a constant process of evolution in my head for some time.  In laying out my vision in writing I hope it will become clearer to me as well as to you.  So here goes......

The old Doll Dreamers Guild was like a club with no meetings for which the members, were required to pay dues and I was required to send out instructional materials through the mail so that the members might improve in their doll making skills, particularly regarding the painting of the eyes.   This format was unsatisfactory for a number of reasons.  It didn't serve the purpose that I had in mind for the guild and was a great deal of busy work for myself and my staff.  When this "Organization" was first conceived it was assumed that there would be events where the work of the members, at various levels of accomplishment, would be displayed and particpants would benefit from instructional critiques. The Showcase Challenge would provide opportunities for all of us to exhibit and to learn from one another.  With the slump in the doll industry the doll events ceased and we had no venue for hosting our Challenge/Showcase.  This lack of connection made it impossible for the Doll Dreamer's Guild to do what it was intended to do.  For some time I have been thinking that  what we really need to do is become an internet organization. I believe that would solve most of the problems.  It is my hope and aim to create an internet Educational program, Network and Showcase that will provide opportunities for doll makers to improve and advance within the guild. Announcing the First On-line Doll Dreamer's Guild Porcelain Dollmaking Challenge/Showcase

We have never tried this before although we have hosted a number live Challenges in years past.  We are in the process of revamping the score sheets to fit the new format. We just wanted to get the date out there so you can begin to plan your entries. There are a number of differences between this kind of Challenge and the live ones that we have had in the past.  The entries will be judged based on Photos that you can send as an attachment or as prints sent by snail mail.  Details about the rules and requirements will be coming soon.  

One thing we would like to tell you is that collaborative dolls are welcome.  If you have a friend who likes to make the costume for your doll or vice versa we will be judging the costume on a separate score sheet.  If you want to make a costume but don't have a doll please call the studio and we will try to supply you with a doll so you can enter the costume part.

Dates:

Registration: September 1st. This is the deadline for having your forms and entry fee emailed or mailed in to the studio.
